SUPER BOWL LIX: NEW ORLEANS

HATING ON THE REFS IS A JOY FOR EVERYONE.

As an agency based in New Orleans and known for its strategic research on consumer joy, PETERMAYER uncovered a provocative truth. In the world of sports, being “a hater” is part of the fun. And leading up to Super Bowl LIX, nothing was bringing fans more joy that hating on the refs. Many predicted the game would be rigged by the refs in favor of the Kansas City Chiefs, so we put the cosmic power back in the hands of the fans.

On Super Bowl Sunday, we transported a 12 foot voodoo doll dressed as a referee around the streets of the French Quarter allowing fans to curse the game in favor of their favorite team. Hosted by reality TV star and influencer, Trishelle Cannatella, we brought fans cathartic joy and charitable donations to the city of New Orleans with every stick, stab or prick of the doll. In the end, fans of the Philadelphia Eagles did the most voodoo cursing and the Eagles surprised everyone with an almost flawless victory in the Super Bowl. Did we do that? I guess we’ll never really know.
